2024 SRT Daytona: Dodge Unleashes Electric Muscle Car Era

As the automotive landscape shifts towards electric power, many manufacturers are rolling out familiar-looking crossovers. Dodge, however, is taking a dramatically different path. The brand recently unveiled its first battery-electric vehicle (BEV), shattering the mold of conventional EVs. Introducing the world’s first electric muscle car, Dodge is proving that electrification doesn’t mean sacrificing excitement. This is the dawn of a new era, embodied in the 2024 Srt Daytona spirit, brought to life initially through the electrifying Charger Daytona R/T and Scat Pack models.

When Dodge revealed the Charger Daytona SRT® Banshee Concept in 2022, skepticism surrounded whether the production version could capture its stunning aesthetics. While the production-spec SRT Banshee itself remains anticipated, the unveiled 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T and Scat Pack confirm that the design team remained remarkably faithful to the concept’s vision. From the aggressive overall silhouette to intricate details like the signature front/rear LED lighting, the functional R-Wing pass-through front spoiler, and the innovative Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust, the production car translates the concept’s bold statement into reality. The outcome is a striking modern muscle car that clearly references the iconic 1970 Charger design heritage.

The 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona boasts looks that command attention, crucially distinguishing itself from every other EV currently available. Virtually all mass-market EVs adopt either a sedan or crossover form, often converging on a profile Dodge designers cheekily refer to as a “melting jelly bean.” The new Charger unapologetically looks like a muscle car. But its impressive appearance is just the beginning; this new Dodge doesn’t just emulate a muscle car’s presence – it delivers the performance and even the roar expected of one.

Design: A True Muscle Car Silhouette

The journey from the stunning 2022 concept to the 2024 production model shows impressive design discipline. Key visual elements that defined the concept have been meticulously integrated into the Charger Daytona R/T and Scat Pack. The front R-Wing is not just visually striking but enhances downforce, drawing air through the front opening and over the hood. Distinctive full-width front and rear LED lighting signatures create an unmistakable identity, day or night. Perhaps most surprisingly, the Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust system – a patent-pending technology designed to give this EV the sound profile worthy of the Dodge name – made it to production, offering sound intensity comparable to the outgoing V8 Scat Pack. This commitment to bold design ensures the Charger Daytona stands apart, rejecting the aerodynamic homogeneity common among today’s EVs and proudly embracing its muscle car roots.

Electrifying Performance: The Next Generation of Dodge Muscle

2024 Charger Daytona R/T and Scat Pack Specs

Launching later this year as 2024 models, the Dodge Charger Daytona coupe debuts in R/T and Scat Pack trims. The baseline R/T produces 340 kW (456 horsepower), while the standard Scat Pack delivers 440 kW (590 horsepower). However, for its inaugural year, Dodge is equipping these electric muscle cars with standard Direct Connection stage kits. The 2024 Charger Daytona R/T includes the Stage 1 kit, boosting output to 370 kW (496 horsepower) and 404 lb-ft of torque. The 2024 Charger Daytona Scat Pack comes standard with the Stage 2 kit, unleashing a potent 500 kW – equivalent to 670 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. Both models operate on a 400V architecture featuring a 100.5 kWh battery pack and employ an electric drive module (EDM) on each axle, enabling the superior grip and acceleration of standard all-wheel drive.

This translates to impressive acceleration. The 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T, enhanced by the Direct Connection kit, achieves 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds and runs the quarter-mile in 13.1 seconds. The Scat Pack, armed with its standard Stage 2 upgrade, rockets from 0-60 mph in a blistering 3.3 seconds, conquering the quarter-mile in just 11.5 seconds. A key advantage is the instant torque delivery inherent to EVs, combined with the sophisticated all-wheel-drive system and the PowerShot feature (providing a 15-second boost of 40 horsepower). This combination ensures these performance figures are consistently achievable, even on surfaces that aren’t perfectly prepped.

Expanding Power in 2025

Following the initial launch with standard Direct Connection kits for the 2024 model year, the Dodge Charger Daytona coupe lineup will diversify in 2025. The full range of power levels for the R/T and Scat Pack will become available, including base configurations and optional Direct Connection Stage 1 and Stage 2 upgrades. The 2025 Charger Daytona R/T will start at 340 kW/456 hp (base), offer 370 kW/496 hp with Stage 1 (same as 2024 standard), and reach 400 kW/536 hp with Stage 2. The 2025 Charger Daytona Scat Pack will begin at 440 kW/590 hp (base), offer 470 kW/630 hp with Stage 1, and retain the potent 500 kW/670 hp and 627 lb-ft torque output with Stage 2 (same as 2024 standard).

Beyond Straight-Line Speed: Handling and Dynamics

While the acceleration figures are headline-grabbing, the Dodge team engineered the Charger Daytona for more than just drag strip dominance. Both R/T and Scat Pack models feature uniquely tuned monotube dampers for responsive handling. The Scat Pack receives slightly stiffer settings for enhanced agility and a sportier feel. For ultimate handling prowess, the Scat Pack offers an optional Track Pack. This package includes a sophisticated dual-valve semi-active suspension system with adaptive damping that adjusts based on the selected drive mode, optimizing ride comfort and track performance.

Speaking of drive modes, the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T offers Auto, Eco, Sport, Wet/Snow, and Track modes. The Scat Pack builds on this with additional Drag, Donut, and Drift modes. While most modes are familiar from previous Dodge performance vehicles, Donut and Drift are exciting new additions for the all-wheel-drive EV platform. Donut mode enables impressive standing burnouts by allowing the rear wheels to spin while the front wheels hold, facilitating controlled, rotating burnouts. Drift mode provides multiple slip angle settings, enabling controlled oversteer drifts with power distributed to all four wheels for spectacular slides.

Complementing the handling capabilities are robust braking systems that incorporate regenerative braking to recapture energy. The Charger Daytona R/T features 354mm front and 350mm rear rotors housed within standard 18×8-inch wheels. The Scat Pack upgrades to standard 380mm front and 360mm rear rotors behind larger 20×11-inch wheels. The optional Track Pack takes braking to another level, equipping the Scat Pack with massive 410mm (16.1-inch) rotors both front and rear. These represent the largest factory brakes ever fitted to any Dodge Charger model. For the 2024 model year Scat Pack, these formidable 16.1-inch brakes come standard.

The Track Pack also includes a staggered wheel setup, measuring 20×11 inches up front and 20×11.5 inches at the rear. These wheels are wrapped in substantial Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar 3 tires, 305mm wide in the front and 325mm wide in the rear – the largest tire package ever offered on a factory Charger. This massive contact patch helps the 670-horsepower electric muscle car maintain traction during aggressive launches and carve through corners on a road course. Further enhancing the Scat Pack’s track capabilities are systems like Line Lock (for front brake-only burnouts), Launch Control (for optimized standing starts), and Race Prep. Race Prep optimizes battery temperature for specific scenarios: warming the battery for peak energy output during short drag race bursts, or cooling it for longer track sessions where sustained energy drain generates more heat. The system provides detailed feedback on battery level, thermal status, and readiness time.

Range and Recharging Capabilities

Key considerations for any EV are driving range and charging speed. Dodge estimates the Charger Daytona R/T will offer up to 317 miles of range on a full charge, while the more powerful Scat Pack is estimated at 260 miles. Charging times depend on the method used. Using the standard onboard Level 2 (AC) charger, replenishing the battery from 5% to 80% takes approximately 7 hours, while a 20% to 80% charge requires about 5.5 hours. This means an overnight charge at home will typically provide a full battery by morning. For the Scat Pack, an 80% charge equates to roughly 208 miles; for the R/T, it’s about 254 miles.

For faster charging on the go, Level 3 (DC) fast charging stations offer significantly quicker turnaround times. Connected to a 175 kW DC charger, both models can charge from 5% to 80% in about 52 minutes (or 42 minutes for 20% to 80%). Utilizing a more powerful 350 kW DC fast-charging station reduces the 5% to 80% time to just over 30 minutes (and just under 30 minutes for 20% to 80%). In practical terms, using a 350 kW station, the Charger Daytona R/T adds range at a rate of approximately 9.9 miles per minute of charging, while the Scat Pack gains about 8.1 miles per minute.

High-Tech Cockpit: Inside the Charger Daytona

The interior design team crafted a driver-focused cockpit that aligns with the Charger Daytona’s futuristic muscle car persona, again drawing inspiration from the SRT Banshee Concept. A standout feature is the new steering wheel with a flattened top and bottom, equipped with controls for vehicle performance settings and infotainment functions. Behind the wheel lies a configurable digital instrument cluster – 10.25 inches standard in the R/T and an expansive 16 inches in the Scat Pack.
